The Importance Of Bespoke.

I like the word bespoke. I like what it implies - ie that something has been designed and made for a particular person. Because of this I feel the character of the client should come through into the design. When you think of a bespoke suit you think of a tailor carefully measuring his clients body and then crafting that suit with the correct materials so it fits the person like a glove. Whether it be a bright suit for a celebration, or a pinstripe one for an accountant or a ball gown for a party. I would like to think the clients character comes through and when they wear that piece of clothing it just feels 'right'. Comfortable yet practical. A piece of clothing that makes the wearer feel elevated and happy.

The bespoke nature of kitchen design should ideally be very similar. We are creating spaces for people (plural) not for one person. And it is those people who should be considered fully if the design is to work. I always ask clients to show me images of inspiration and then I try to take those images and what I learn about the client. About the family. About the visitors to the space. About the way they live. About the space itself. And then try to design something that is individually theirs. As a collective. Images on social media are all good and well but they are inspiration only. The magic is to create something personal. Something bespoke. That is when you leave clients in a space feeling comfortable, elevated and happy. When the form has followed the function and the wow factor continues with every use, day after day.
